Want to Know Sentai's Favorite Fall Anime? Absolutely!

Can you feel it?

That feeling is in the air again.

The leaves have changed colors. The elusive and coveted pumpkin spice flavor once again appears in food and lattes. Corporate America once again violates social norms by promoting Christmas before Halloween and Thanksgiving have their rightful turns. But there is something of far greater importance: a new anime season has begun!

Welcome, one and all, to Fall.

It’s a brand-new season with new possibilities and simulcasts. But wait! Before you put in for your sick days and stock up on snacks for your watch parties, let us first take a look at some fall titles from Sentai Filmworks’ past.

Shirobako - Fall 2014

We at Sentai Filmworks have a confession to make: We fell in love with this series. It has a special place deep within our hearts. Why? It’s because we identify with every single character in this series.

No joke, we’ve taken turns debating which one of us is which Shirobako character. Except for Tarou. NOBODY wants to be Tarou. Why does he even still have a job?

Shirobako is one of those series that draws back the curtain. It gives you, the viewer, a peek at exactly what goes on during anime production.

We’re here to tell you that it’s all true. The deadlines, the blood, sweat, and tears are real. But you know what? It’s all worth it in the end, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

(And for the love of god, does Aoi ever deserve props. Someone give that woman a raise!)

Chivalry of a Failed Knight - Fall 2015

School can really suck. You know it and we know it. Students can be really cruel, especially when you get stuck with the nickname “The Worst One.” This is the situation our hero, Ikki Kurogane, finds himself in since he attends a magic academy when he has no magical talent.

Fortunately for Ikki, what he lacks in magic he makes up for in skill and wits. Don’t get us wrong: Shooting fireballs out of your hand is a powerful ability, there’s no question about that. However, all the magic in the world won’t save you if your opponent knows how to counter your every move.

So three cheers for Ikki for proving you don’t have to have magic to come out on top!

Flip Flappers - Fall 2016

Ok, class, time for a math problem! Don’t worry, we already did all the hard work for you:

Alice in Wonderland + Magical Girls = Flip Flappers

Yup! That’s the show in a nutshell (Be glad we decided against asking an essay question). For anyone who hasn’t seen the show yet, we’d like to say:

GREETINGS TO ALL. Come in, make yourself comfortable, and enjoy the whimsical and fantastical setting.

A famous chocolate factory owner once said that he would take us to a “world of pure imagination.” That’s exactly where Cocona and Papika find themselves every episode: In a world fueled by delirium known only as “Pure Illusion.”

Sometimes, they find themselves in the middle of a snowy forest, other times a desert. The girls have no control over where they find themselves. Yet, that only means they find themselves in a unique adventure each time.

Land of the Lustrous - Fall 2017

Guess what’s getting a dub soon? If you said Land of the Lustrous because we were already on the subject, then you get a high five!

<Insert Sentai Filmworks giving you a high five here>

Are you as excited as we are? We can all relate to not knowing what to do with our lives. We’ve all been there at one point or another, which makes Phos extremely relatable despite not being human.

So, when Kongo-sensei tasks Phos with writing an encyclopedia about the world, it sets Phos on the path of self-discovery that they never imagined.

We love the beauty and complexity of this CG anime with its gorgeous visuals and unparalleled animation. Soon, you too will be able to experience this coming of age tale, only this time in English and Spanish!

Girls’ Last Tour - Fall 2017

Fall carries with it many things. One of which is the knowledge of what comes after. Fall may be here, but winter is coming; the long dark (Yes. We did that, back to back) is approaching and we must prepare ourselves for its inevitable icy grip. For some, it means a temporary pause as the Earth falls into slumber. But in some primal part of the mind, there lies the fear that it will never wake up ever again.

In this tale, the end has already come and gone. Civilization has been wiped out and the Earth is on its last legs. However, life still finds a way.

This is the story of how their friendship defies the bleak epilogue of humanity’s story.

This is the story of how two girls still find meaning in the day-to-day.

This is the story of Girls’ Last Tour.

Just Because! - Fall 2017

We wrote about this title at the end of last month stating how grounded in reality this show was. That is, as much an anime can be. Don’t worry; we won’t get all grimdark as we did with the title above. We’ll say that Just Because! is, in many ways, relatable and in case you didn’t know...we’re bringing you a dub for this series!

Hey, that’s the third time in a row we mentioned a series was getting a dub. That’s gotta be some kinda anime hat trick.
