Anime Titles to Watch on “Back to the Future” Day

Ah. October 21, 2015.

As we slide down the street on our hover boards looking for a certain time traveler in a red and black jacket… wait. Where’s our hover board? Where are our power laces and self adjusting, self-drying jackets?! Where is our random headwear?

This is not the future we were promised, but we’ll let it slide… this time, if only because we have anime to sooth our lame future blues.

Time travel isn’t exclusive to 80’s classics. As you know, anime itself has its fair share of time-traveling adventures.  Let’s take a look at some action anime titles that take you on a trip through time to celebrate “Back to the Future” Day.

Punch Line

Yuta has a problem: due to circumstances beyond his control, if he sees a girl’s panties twice, he gets so excited that he passes out and a meteor destroys the earth. Fortunately, he also has the ability to go back in time to essentially replay the situation to avoid said pantsu-shot. Time traveling at its finest?

The Ambition of Oda Nobuna

Yoshiharu has a different problem: he’s been pulled into the past. One day, he finds himself trapped in Japan’s warring states period, but it could be worse. At least he has plenty of lovely and rather ambitious lady warriors around him. With all the friendships he’s making, and lives he’s changing, does he really want to go… wait for it… back to the future?

Battle Girls: Time Paradox

If male main characters aren’t your fancy, we have another time-traveling suggestion. Hideyoshino is a normal high school girl who is suddenly transported back in time to an alternate universe of warring states Japan. In this universe, Japan’s historic heroes are all women! This action anime title gives you your fix of gender-bending and time traveling in one shot.

Popotan

Imagine time travel from the convenience of your own home, or in this case, mansion. The girls of Popotan travel forward through time, never aging, and always keeping the same house. The series explores the nature of greetings and goodbyes, and depicts the passage of time as a journey, rather than an occurrence. This is a good one if you want to have some deep thoughts with your generous fan service.
